B.A DANCE

Reflections

B.A in dance answered a very simple question for me.

What is dance? Why do we dance?

In times of urgency, my body has always resorted towards dancing or other forms of movement.

Before the start of this journey, I was only a body. Now I have found a living breathing movement inside me. Dance was performative before, now dance is embodiment.

Dance is my body creating music, banging, sliding against the many walls, the exit doors and sliding through the floors. Learning dance created a hunger in stillness, I starved for movement. Caged in performance.

It tore me apart,

I swallowed it whole.

Until I had nothing left of the old skin, no breath speared, not even a single twitch.

I found my own legs, my own eyes and an infinite space not confined within the walls of patriarchy, camera or the tunes the world hums.

I found the rhythm of my own feet walking, clapping, my own voice chanting.

Dancing is not a talent nor a skill.

For me, it is learning of life in the body.

Breaking boundaries of separation

I found stories within, silenced in the pits of my stomach and the corner of my thighs, that came out alive with movement.

My journey has not been one of performances rather unlearning it.

So, i can step into my true embodiment.
